Titanium Aluminum Carbide (Ti

; CAS
196506-01-1) is a ternary ceramics made of aluminum, titanium and carbon. This ceramic has unique layered structure, similar to graphite, known as MAX phase. This structure affords ceramics material with mechanical properties similar to metal such as ductility and low hardness.
The layered morphology of this material is visible in the SEM pictures shown in this listing.

is used as starting material for preparing graphite-like Titanium Carbide (MXene Ti3C2) by dissolving the aluminum layers with acid. The resulting two dimensional Ti

MXene is very different than conventional cubic TiC in stoichiometry and crystal structure.
MAX phase materials are also being researched as construction materials for jet engines and as high temperature self-healing ceramics.
The MAX Ti
